According to Shawn La'Yave, hair colorist and stylist at DEX New York, if your blond mane has a brassy attitude, you can tone down the brassiness with a DIY violet shampoo. Her mane recipe to dull your hair's attitude is to add 3 tablespoons of grape juice concentrate to your fave shampoo.
Spending every day for the past couple of weeks swimming in a highly chlorinated pool, my locks got that bad brass attitude, so I thought I would test my culinary talents and whip up the grape juice recipe suggested by Shawn La'Yave.
Not having grape juice concentrate on hand, I improvised by adding 3 tablespoons of Pinot Noir to my 2007 Aveda shampoo, a good vintage for Aveda, which I thought would harmonize well with the spicy and full-bodied Pinot Noir . Although my hair's 'tude was toned down, I smelled like the fermented sediment passed out at the bottom of an oak 60-gallon barrel. In order to rid my hair of the "bouquet," I had to cook up another recipe: lemon juice and conditioner.
The moral to this story: Friends don't let friends drink and shampoo.
Cheers,
Beckie
