A reader Asks Amanda, cosmetic nurse specialist, for help with dermatitis or blepharitis. Learn how to treat these conditions.
Dear Amanda, I have recurrent problems with dermatitis/blepharitis type problems that affect my eyelids and also the skin right under my eyes. I can usually get the symptoms under control with a variety of methods, but unfortunately after the inflammation and swelling subsides I am left with lots of parchment-like wrinkling of the skin, most notably under my eyes. It's making me appear older before my time and I don't know what if anything can be done about it! Once wrinkling of the eyelid skin occurs, is there any way to reverse it? Any suggestions would really be appreciated. Karen
Dear Karen, the wrinkling and creepiness under your eyes can be caused by irritation, unfortunately the solutions are limited. A simple noninvasive solution is to use a concealer lighter than your makeup and an eye cream. The best product available is LUMIERE eye cream by NEOCUTIS, is approved for application to the eyelids, contains PSP's and caffeine. If you forward me your address, I can forward you samples of the NEOCUTIS CREAM. You can access information at http://www.neocutis.com/. Your other alternative is to do TOTAL FX. The benefits of fractionated laser include immediate skin tightening, reduction in wrinkles and lines; improve texture and tone of your skin and the stimulation of new collagen. The results with fractionated laser are long term. The face, neck, chest, eyes, and hands can be treated. The contraindications (those who should avoid) for treatment with fraxel laser are poor wound healing history, keloid former, and use of Accutane in the past 12 months, prolonged redness. The risks and complications include hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, scarring, pain, burning, crusting, itching, acne like breakouts, herpes, milia, and petechiae.
