Botox's New Competition: Dysport

Posted on Jul 23, 2009 at 5:14AM

Move over Botox; there's a NEW wrinkle-relaxing kid in town - Dysport!  Dysport is an alternative in the cosmetic market that is definitely long overdue.

Allegedly, the newly available Dysport has two advantages over its competitor:  It takes effect faster and seems to last four months instead of three.

A recent survey administered by Kelton Research found that more than 40 percent of respondents were interested in receiving aesthetic botulinum toxin injections within the next six months, as, despite the economy, Americans aren’t willing to give up aesthetic injections and interest is growing.  Whether as a means to stay competitive in today’s job market or simply to maintain a youthful image, the demand and want is strong.

Sixty-three percent of survey respondents who would consider receiving botulinum toxin injections cited that a guarantee of natural-looking results would influence their decision, demonstrating a desire for retaining a natural-looking face, and more natural-looking expressions following injection.  Other top factors included more affordable costs, longer-lasting and faster-acting results.

Respondents are in luck, as Dysport has been recently approved by the FDA for use in the United States for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines – the vertical lines between the eyebrows or a/k/a as "the elevens" – in adult men and women 65 or younger. Dysport was approved in 1991 outside of the U.S, and has since been used in 27 countries. Dysport was the first Botulinum Toxin type A available for medical use in Europe.  It is marketed by Medicis Aesthetics, the company that also markets the dermal fillers: Restylane® and Perlane®.

The benefits of Dysport include:
·         Duration, lasting up to four months
·         Demonstrated efficacy with four repeat treatments (proving results following each treatment)
·         Demonstrated safety with 12 repeat treatments
·         No evidence of neutralizing antibodies
·         Clinical trials included both subjects who have and have not previously been treated with botulinum toxin. There was no difference in results among the two groups

With $400 more in your pocket a year, Dysport seems to outweigh its competition Botox.

I would definitely try home remedies first... before doing any botox... for example, you can do this alternative to lip botox at home, and all you need are peppers: http://www.pantryspa.com/free-recipe/mouth-miracles/spicy-mama-botox/10/...
