How To Find A Hairstylist In A New City

We all know that moving is up there on the stress scale with death, but finding a hairstylist after you've recently moved is more stressful than the move itself. Luckily, after my move to South Bend, Indiana ten years ago, I lucked out with Kevin Quarandillo, whose last name I still can't pronounce, so I call him Kevin Q.

Kevin Quarandillo has moved to three different salons in our ten years of wedded hair bliss. I have always told him two things: "You can run, but you can't hide" and "When I die, the first person to be notified is you -- Kevin Q."

Well, my Kevin Q ran away again, but I found him. Formerly of Emerald Cut, Salon Nouveau, and most recently Illusions, Kevin Quarandillo has moved to his own chair at Radius Salon in Niles, Michigan (574.993.2189).

Sitting in his chair in a salon decorated with vibrant pinks and apple greens that also houses paintings and other small treasures for sale, Kevin offered me tips to share with you on how to find a hairstylist in a new city.

Tips for finding a hairstylist in a new city:

  • Ask a woman whose haircut or color you admire where they get their hair cut

  • Make an appointment for a consultation with the hairstylist before committing to cut or color.

At the consultation, ask the hairstylist the following questions:

  • What is your education?

  • Have you taken any recent classes?

  • What color product do you use?

  • Do you see any issues with my hair?

  • Depending on your needs, ask if he or she works with your type of hair, and how often?

  • What are your prices?

After taking all of the answers into account, evaluate whether or not this hairstylist matches your needs.

Kevin Quarandillo, a Master Stylist and Color Specialist, specializes in precision cutting and coloring, and with his artistic vision and impeccable attention to detail enjoys working with clients to come up with styles individualized to their needs. With 17 years of experience, he is a master of his craft, but he still keeps up with the latest techniques and hair trends as they appear on the fashion scene. He continues to improve his skills through international training with elite educators at the Vidal Sassoon Advanced Academy.

Radius Salon and Gallery is located three minutes north of 23. To schedule an appointment or consultation, you can contact Kevin Quarandillo at 574.993.2189.

What the heck? You're in South Bend? I live in SW Michigan. We go to SB all the time because it's boring here.
